MEMEL - ALLIED OCCUPATION 1920 - 1923
As defined by the Treaty of Versailles, the Klaipeda Region or Memel Territory was placed under the control of the Allies and under the French administration since January 1920. German stamps
type "Germania" with overprint "Memel" were replaced by French stamps with a German currency overprint soon, but the provision and tariffs of the German "Reichspost" were effective.
In early 1923, Lithuanien troops invaded the territory in northern Memel, which then belonged to Lithuania until the beginning of the Second World War in 1939.
